Golf Courses in Kenya
Karen Golf Club
Situated at an altitude of about 6000 feet in the
green residential district of Karen, twelve miles south
of Kenya’s capital city Nairobi, Karen Country club
offers the visitor one of the finest golf courses in the
country, as well as a host of other attractions. Founded
in 1937, Karen prides itself in being one of the oldest
golf clubs in Kenya. A large part of the 18-hole course
was built on the former coffee estate developed by the
Danish pioneer, Karen Blixen, whose life and times were
depicted in the lyrical film `Out of Africa`. Indeed,
the shade trees from her coffee plantation still
dominate parts of the golf course, eighty years after
they were planted

The Muthaiga Country Club is a club in Nairobi,
Kenya. It is located in the affluent suburb of Muthaiga,
about 15 minutes drive from the city center. The
Muthaiga Country Club opened on New Year's Eve in 1913,
and became a gathering place for the elite society of
British East Africa, which later became the colony of
Kenya in 1920. Today, the club is still frequented by

accommodation.

G.C.). The club opened its membership to non - railways
staff in 1924. The clubhouse shown above was built in
1925. The club has a nine hole course with 18 tees and
ten greens. The Railways is a fun course to play,
especially if you are lucky enough to have your game
coincide with a train passing through the course.
Royal Nairobi Golf Club
Welcome to our green city in the sun. For a fervent
golfer, your visit can not be completed without visiting
the oldest golf club in Kenya and Eastern Africa "Royal
Nairobi Golf Club." Having been founded in 1906 and we
celebrated our centenary in 2006. A parkland layout only
ten minutes from the central business district of
Nairobi offers you a challenging 18 holes par 72 course.

yards and ladies have it a little easier at 5845 yards.
The par fours will test the ability of any top golfer.
Windsor Golf & Country Club
This undoubtedly is the best course in Kenya and is said
to be the best in Africa for a host of golfing events.
The championship design and length of the course is the
centre of attention and deservedly so. It threads its
way through coffee farms and indigenous forests with
high and low terrain, giving it character and design
quality. The Golf Course boasts lush, springy fairways,
fast, true greens and a sprinkling of attractive water
hazards with 73 well located sand bunkers and
unforgiving roughs make this course a truly challenging
experience. Situated at an altitude of more than a mile
above sea level, the ball will travel 10 yards further
than at sea level. Even for the non-golfer the course is
a beautiful walking experience luxuriating in the
wonders of nature with bird life, fish, flora and fauna
in abundance.
Limuru Country Club
Limuru golfing actually began away back in 1926 when
local farmers Scott, Bradshaw and some neighbors
established a course and hotel at what is now the Brake
Hurst Baptist Conference Centre. However, the land was
sold some years later and local golfing enthusiasts
began the quest for a new facility. Negotiations with
the government over 80 hectares (200 acres) of Crown
land began in 1945. The land was finally secured on a
25-year lease, through the unwavering efforts of Major
C.E.V. Buxton and Colonel E. Hutchison. This coincided
with 'bush clearing' by other white farmers at the same
location to develop what became Limuru's horse race
track.
Sigona Golf Club
The Sigona Golf Club members proudly
acknowledge our course's fine reputation for having some
of the most beautiful fairways in Kenya. The golf course
is indeed blessed with its serene location. Sitting very
near the Rift Valley at an altitude of 6,600 feet, our
Course receives more than average amounts of Rainfall
and gathers plentiful amounts of moisture from early
morning dew. Sigona Golf Club is one course, which will
test your golf skills along with your physical
conditioning. The beautiful 18th hole, which sits in
front of the clubhouse, gives the player an idea of what
is in store for him. All the greens are as consistent
and well maintained as this one.
Nyali Golf Club
Nyali Golf & Country Club is conveniently situated
within the posh residential area and in close vicinity
to the string of 5- Star Beach Hotels along Nyali &
Bamburi Coast line. The area of the golf course
comprises 154 Acre of land. This land was once upon a
time, a Sisal Estate owned by Nyali Ltd. Construction of
the golf course began in 1956 and by 1958 a 9-hole
course was completed. Extensions of the course were
began in 1966 and by 1980 a full 1980 hole per 71 course
was ready. Further developments over the years included
a large club house, Squash Courts, Tennis Courts and a
Swimming Pool. With a membership of over 1000 members,
we have a lovely course and all the year round golfing.
To overcome the effects of dry weather, a complete
irrigation system has been built so that our greens are
always green and our fairways are fair to all way-fares.
We have a well stocked Pro-shop where all golf
accessories of daily needs are available. A competent
professional attached to the club is at your service for
golf lessons. A first class restaurant to the club where
Asian and European type of food is available for snacks,
lunches and dinners. Caddies at reasonable price are
available, and some golf set are available for hire at
the pro-shop. A visit to the club and a round or two of
golf should be a must to complete your holiday at
Mombasa
Leisure Golf Club
Located on Kenya's south coast at the popular Diani
Beach resort, Leisure is a young but rapidly maturing
championship course. The principal challenges for most
golfers are in reading blustery winds and coping with
the humidity. Visiting professionals recommend golfer's
take two towels - one for drying the sweat off your
hands before each shot! The greens are superbly true.
The annual Diani Masters pro-am event held in early
October is extremely popular with overseas and local
golfers. Leisure is about an hour's drive from Mombassa
city, but just a few minutes from nearby Ukunda
airstrip, serviced by local operator schedule air
services from Nairobi.
Nakuru Golf Club
Nakuru Golf club is 160 Km from Nairobi on the slopes of
the extinct volcanic Menengai Crater. Lake Nakuru is the
only uphill course in Kenya, it is challenging yet
enjoyable for the average golfer. The course offers
stunning views of the lake with its millions of
flamingoes, as well as of Menengai crater and the
distant Rift Valley escarpments. The club's annual event
is the Coronation Trophy
Nyeri Sports Club
Nyeri Sports Club is the second oldest course in the
country, founded in 1910. This 9-hole course is laid out
in a superb setting and offers exquisite scenery. While
standing on the tee of the 6th, Mt Kenya can be seen
looming above the green giving a breathtaking view of
nature in all its glory. The greens are well bunkered
with both sand and grass traps. The roughs are the
highest you will find anywhere as the layout skirts
around a thick forest of very tall evergreens. Add to
this mixture a stream and a valley, and you have the
recipe for a difficult game of golf. Nyeri's golf course
is very pretty indeed and highly recommended for play
for the ardent and the family golfer.
Thika Sports Club
Thika Sports Club is set in the serene countryside,
amongst pineapple and coffee plantations and near the
famous Thika Falls - the scene of Tarzans movies. Most
of the fairways are undulating, most greens small and
round. Only in 1996 the course was extended from nine to
18 holes. The clubhouse has a very rustic sense to it,
with large uncovered wooden beams running the width of
the ceiling, it is almost Swiss Alpine in appearance. A
large fireplace warms both sides of the lounge. Thika
Sports Club dates back to 1922, but the golf course was
laid out 10 years later. The biggest event held here is
the Winston Churchill Cup, which is scheduled as a Kenya
Golf Union event since 1979. The Club which is only 15
minutes away from Safari Park Hotel will provide the
visitor with a relaxing day of golf.
Mount Kenya Safari Club
This is an experience that the visitor must include in
his or her itinerary. Nowhere in the world do you come
face to face with one of nature's greatest anomalies - a
snowcapped mountain lying on the equator! This exclusive
rich man's retreat opened in 1959. Despite the fact that
this is a 9 hole pitch and putt, composed entirely of
par 3 holes, it is absolutely brutal. While the course
is laid out on one of the most beautiful and serene
settings in Africa, you have to be very accurate. The
water hazards are many and coupling with the splendid
views of Mount Kenya from virtually every hole on the
course with the variety of flowers and birds decorating
it, the golfer is sure to leave Mt. Kenya with lasting
memories.
